On 30 June 2014, a closing conference of a Caritas Czech Republic project took place in Chișinău, Moldova. The project was aimed at kick-starting business activities – creating work opportunities using so-called remittances, i.e. money that Moldovans earn abroad and send or carry back to their country.

On the 14th of August, school equipment was officially handed over to three schools, namely to Simeon Ocdol National High School, Basey National High School and Basey II Central Elementary School in the city of Basey in the Philippine province of Samar. The handover was also attended by representatives of Caritas Czech Republic.

“Helping people in need is our job”

Humanitarian workers from six Czech non-profit organisations celebrated World Humanitarian Day which was declared by the United Nations for the 19th August. In light of the information from the year 2013 warning about a dramatic growth of safety incidents in which the humanitarian workers are also the victims, they spoke about their own experience from the current critical areas, such as South Sudan, Syria or Ukraine.

Caritas supports help in Gaza

Caritas Czech Republic mobilised from its humanitarian fund 100.000 CZK to send to partners Caritas Jerusalem for support of people in Gaza.

“Children were dying of hunger. There was no milk to feed newborn babies,” said Amal, a 27-year-old mother who has recently fled from Damascus. “People were eating cats and dogs. We were boiling grass in water to make it go further. You hated the day because there was nothing to eat and you hated the night because there was nothing to eat,” she said. Midwives in Mongu receive extra textbooks and tools

On the 24th of July Caritas Czech Republic, together with Lewanika School of Midwifery, organised a ceremonial handing-over of study tools. The school’s headmaster, Mrs. Rosemary V. Mwanza, opened the ceremony with words of thanks and spoke about the significance of cooperation with Caritas Czech Republic in supporting obstetrics in the Western province.
