Humanitarian assistance to IDPs in 2009

The three decades-long military conflict in Sri Lanka ended in May 2009. Caritas Czech Republic provided humanitarian assistance to refugees in the camps in northern Sri Lanka.

Promoting women in Tambacounda

Since 2006, Caritas CR had been cooperating with Caritas Austria on the project 'Profemme', implemented in the southwest of Senegal. This project aimed at the emancipation of women and Caritas CR endorsed the goal of this project by facilitating access to safe drinking water. The presence of wells in the village means for women a significant time saving contributes to the reduction of the incidence of infectious diseases and allows cropping activities in the dry season.

Somalia has been described as a collapsed state since 1990. The country is affected by long-standing internal armed conflict and is balancing on the edge of collapse. Dysfunctional state structures, political instability, climate change, prolonged drought and lack of investment in agriculture have lead in some parts of the country to a humanitarian disaster, leaving thousands of people dependent on foreign aid.
