Caritas CR has been active within the social and education sphere in Cambodia since the end of 2010. At present, it focuses on inclusive education of children with disabilities in the province of Takeo through the cooperation with teachers, representatives of local communities and partner NGOs.

Cambodian Youth are Committed to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

“Young people are  important drivers in achieving the 2030 goals because they have knowledge, energy and time to participate with other like-minded youth  in making positive changes in their community. I am very happy to be a part of this network in which I can contribute to promoting SDGs”, said Lyinh, one of the youngsters, during the 2030 Youth Force gathering last Sunday.

A Training Center Opened in Siem Reap

Caritas Czech Republic, along with its organization Essential Personel Cambodia, opened with much festively, the first center of professional education for young people with disabilities in the town of Siem Reap in the north-western part of Cambodia. The Ministry of Labor and Professional Vocation along with representatives of the local governor were among the special guests who attended the event on 8th December.

Under supervision of Czech doctor, 84 patients were examined by CT scan in Takeo

In the Cambodian province of Takeo almost 20% of its residents live under the poverty line in hardly accessible areas with insufficient medical care. At the beginning Caritas Czech Republic started supporting ophthalmology here and afterwards it focused also on improving medical care in general.

Komar Pikar Foundation’s day care centres help disabled children in Cambodia

During her cross-country journey to Cambodia, Veronika Nožinová, the programme manager for Cambodia and the Philippines, visited not only areas where Caritas CR works, but also two day care centres for disabled children in the province of Kampot. They are run by a non‑profit foundation Komar Pikar, which set up another two centres that are also in the capital city Phnom Penhu.

Jan Trachta, a paediatric surgeon from Motol hospital and a worker for Doctors without Borders, arrived for a short mission in a provincial hospital in Takeo, Cambodia, where he trained doctors in paediatric surgery and urology.

Inclusive education in Cambodia celebrates achievements

The staff of Caritas Czech Republic met children from 59 classes and their teachers during the last visit of Caritas in five Cambodian schools in the regions of Samrong, Bati and Prey Kabas. All schools are actively engaged in supporting the inclusion of children with disabilities into mainstream schooling.
