Global Development Education

What is Global Development Education?

Global Development Education is a lifelong learning process which helps to understand the differences and similarities between the lives of people in developing and developed countries and to understand economic, social, political, environmental and cultural processes that affect them. It develops skills and promotes the values ​​and attitudes for people to be able and willing to actively participate in solving local and global problems.

Caritas Czech Republic offers:

  • Training for teachers of primary school pupils or lower classes of grammar schools
  • Discussions with students called "Invite a specialist to your schools".

Both services are provided free of charge.

“Houses like in a fairy tale”

The first memory Kurdish-Syrian Roz has about the Czech Republic are the houses that look like they are from a fairy tale. Together with her mother and five siblings, the family were granted asylum in Prague. Two of her cousins were killed in Syria while fighting against the Islamic State, one of whom fought in well known battle of Kobani – at the Turkish border.

The role of local self-government in development cooperation

On November 24th, 2015 the international conference, "The role of local self-government in development cooperation" was held in Černín Palace in Prague under the auspices of Foreign Minister, Lubomír Zaorálek. Caritas CR was involved together with the Union of Towns and Municipalities. The objective of the event was to introduce decentralized development cooperation in Czech towns, their partner organizations in the EU, and developing and emerging countries.
