Mongolia

Mongolia is a priority country for Czech development cooperation. Caritas CR has been working in Mongolia since 2006, when it launched its first development project in the country. Since 2008 it has had an office in Ulaanbaatar (its mission). It had been dedicated its work particularly to education, social work, restoring livelihoods, humanitarian assistance, prevention of risks of natural disasters and migration. Caritas CR has also established a mobile medical unit serving the remote rural areas of western Mongolia. Caritas CR was devoted to the protection of human rights in Mongolian prisons during the years 2012 and 2015.

In December 2016, the parishes of the Olomouc deanery joined the traditional Advent wreath making.  The charity campaign collected the total sum of CZK 57.242, part of which will be donated to the Verbist Care Center Orphanage of Ulaanbaatar and the other part for direct assistance to the needy of their parishes.

Mongolia faces big chill as arctic winter worsens

Once again, thousands of nomadic herders households are under threat of what is known as “Dzud”, a Mongolian term for a severe winter in which large number of livestock die (photo: Caritas Mongolia).

This winter will likely see vast swathes of the Mongolian steppe hit by the extreme weather phenomenon known as a “dzud”. Fears are growing of a devastating humanitarian crisis. Temperatures have dropped to -50C and pasture is covered with 90 cm of snow. Some of the main roads have been closed due to the snowfall. The cold is likely to get worse say meteorologists. Donations  from Olomouc contributed to the repair Ulanabatar orphanage

Money received from the benefit event, Advent Wreaths, organized by Caritas Olomouc helped repair the Ulanbatar orphanage in Mongolia. Hundreds of donors from Olomouc region gave a total of 59,104 CZK for  orphaned children in the children´s Home Verbist Care Center by buying the wreaths. The money will  be used to repair  walls that were damaged due to   leakage  inside the orphanage.

The closing ceremony of ''Supporting a Greener Construction Industry in Mongolia" project

A closing ceremony for the four and a half year project aimed at implementation of ecological and sustainable construction procedures and materials in Mongolia, occurred on the 31st of May 2016. This ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Mongolia, Mrs. Ivana Grollová, by the head of the mission of the Caritas CR in Mongolia, Mr. T. Chapoy, and by representatives of Mongolian ministries, universities, enterprises and media organisations.

A handbook on how to implement mobile health care services is now available in Mongolia

Residents of the outlying rural areas in need of health care.

In October 2015, a seminar on the mobile health care services was held for local people from the remote rural areas of Zavchan province in Mongolia. Althoughthere has been no reliable legal framework, healthcare services are still provided – in the form of first-aid stations in yurts placed across the whole province and by way of vehicles equipped with medications and medical supplies.
