Caritas Czech Republic helps in Pakistan

Pakistan was hit by heavy floods at the end of July and the monsoon season has not ended yet. About 3 million people were affected with more than 1,400 being killed (according to a UNICEF report). Members of the Caritas network are operating in the area.

At the end of July in 2010, heavy torrential rains caused catastrophic floods in Pakistan. Raging floodwaters washed away homes, bridges, schools, water systems and medical facilities. Rescue and relief efforts are underway. Unfortunately the access to the most affected areas is still limited.

Currently four members of the Caritas network are operating in Pakistan. Particular needs are clean drinking water, food, sleeping mats and sheeting, and health and hygiene kits.

Caritas Czech Republic immediately released CZK 100 000 from its emergency fund to be given to local Pakistani partners for the purchase of basic needs (food, water purification tablets, hygiene supplies, etc.).

The public collection for helping Pakistan was launched on August 3, 2010 in the Czech Republic.
