About us
Since 2004, the Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation Department has been part of Caritas Czech Republic, the oldest charitable organisation in the Czech Republic. It provides aid around the world where it is needed. We have seven permanent foreign branches - Zambia, Iraq, Mongolia, Georgia, Moldova, Syria, Turkey and Ukraine. Our primary focus is on development cooperation. But we are also regularly involved in humanitarian aid to people affected by humanitarian crises anywhere in the world, whether in war, natural disaster or other serious situations.
Helping within the Czech Republic
Together with more than 160 members, we are part of the worldwide network of Caritas Internationalis. The Department of Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation falls under the Caritas Czech Republic but is mainly dedicated to aid abroad.

HOW WE WORK
Sustainability
Our work focuses on maximising the impact of our aid and making it sustainable in the long term. Wherever possible, as soon as immediate humanitarian assistance is provided, we help people get back on their feet and secure their livelihoods, enabling them to prosper in the long term.
Transparency
Efficient use of financial resources and maximum transparency are essential for us. Therefore, besides the high quality and fairness of the assistance provided, we require absolute financial transparency from our staff.
Equality
We provide help to those in need, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, political affiliation or religion.
Cooperation
We work with proven local partner organisations and with local authorities at national and local levels. We are highly valued partners of UN agencies such as UNHCR, UNICEF, UNDP and the European Commission, and we work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Czech Development Agency, embassies and many other respected institutions. We are part of a global network of Caritas, whose members cooperate regularly.
OUR PRIORITIES
Development cooperation
In our development cooperation, our priorities are mainly in the areas of healthcare and social services, education, support for creating new jobs in disadvantaged regions and ensuring and supporting the livelihoods of local people. We also pay close attention to environmental protection and sustainability.
Humanitarian aid
We provide humanitarian aid to people affected by war or natural disasters. In a humanitarian disaster, we provide basic needs such as shelter, food, drinking water, sanitation, and medical and psychological care.
