Pakistan is examining the extent of the damage from Monday morning‘s earthquake and is mobilizing its rescue teams. Prime minister Nawaz Šaríf had ordered civil and military bodies to remain in a high state of emergency. It was also annouced by Pandzab´s rescue service 1122, spokesperson Jam Sajjad, that there are no deaths recorded in Pandzab.
The security situation is still unstable in most of the crucial areas. For example district hospital in the Khyber Pass province, contiguous with the boarder with Afghanistan, is still in an emergency state. In Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, there were failures of communication services due to the Monday earthquake. Many other areas are still inaccessible, because of the impassability of Karakoram´s highway at four places.
At this moment in Peshawar in Khyber Pass province, there are two teams from Caritas Pakistan operating and the Caritas will monitor the situation further and inform Caritas Internationalis about the situation as well as government bodies and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Caritas ČR announced financial aid to help both countries. Donations can be sent at the account 55660022/0800, under variable symbol 173 (Afghanistan) and 132 (Pakistan). We are grateful to all to all donors!
