Typhoon Koppu is weakening

Typhoon Koppu, locally known as Lando, has slightly weakened since yesterday afternoon. Despite this change, it will continue to bring medium rains and scattered storms in the Ilocos, the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative regions.

Before this slight let-up, the powerful typhoon destroyed soil, infrastructure and homes of thousands people from 27 provinces. After six days of heavy rains, typhoon Koppu left 26 people dead and injured 7. It is, however, not due to leave the Philippines until Sunday, October 25.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), typhoon Koppu has affected 907,267 people from 194,387 families living in seven regions in northern Luzon, which amounts to 19 towns, 192 villages and 1,525 barangays.

Caritas Philippines (NASSA) has already designated PHP 1.5 million (approximately CZK 774 685) to repair the damage. This emergency fund is administrated by seven diocesan caritas that provide the typhoon victims with food and other humanitarian aid.

Dutch development aid organisation CORDAID and Caritas Germany both promised to release a further EUR 40,000 (approximately CZK 1,082,302). In addition, Catholic Relief Service CRS is to release USD 50,000 (approximately CZK 1,195,650).

NASSA is monitoring the situation and you can follow them on Facebook for the latest news.
