Photos from Iraq
In the summer of 2014, more than a million people had to flee their homes because of attacks by the radicals of the so-called Islamic state. Many took refuge in Bersee or Ankawa, towns near to the town of Zakho. Humanitarian organizations, including Caritas Czech Republic, Caritas Germany and the US Catholic Relief Service, cooperated with the domestic Caritas Iraq organization to try and ensure that basic needs were met. This was particularly important given the coming winter. More photos can be found on the Flickr account of Caritas Internationalis.
