Water buffaloes are very important helpers for farmers in the Philippines, especially when it comes to rice cultivation. They work hard on the fields – ploughing and harrowing. Additionally, buffalo milk is an essential raw material for popular cheese production such as ceseo, which is similar to mozzarella.
Caritas Czech republic has distributed almost 30 buffaloes among local residents since 2014, following typhoon Yolanda. Furthermore, organic farming and agricultural methods more resilient to climate change have been introduced.
Usually, a cow gives birth to only one calf. Exceptionally, as in this case, two calves were born on a farm in the Filipino village of New San Augustin. Filipino zoologists talk about this rarity – the probability that buffaloes give birth to twins naturally is one in a million. Caritas Czech republic was there!
