While waiting for the rain that will end long-lasting draughts, farmers involved in Czech Caritas project "Diversified Organic Agriculture System” in Philippines are learning how to produce their own homemade fertilizers. All ingredients are from their farms or available on local market. That´s why it cost almost nothing.
Ingredients depend on what is the bio-fertilizer going to be used for. The Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), which is perfect to promote flowering and fruit setting, is made from partly rotting pumpkins, while the Oriental Herbal Nutrients, used to wipe out powdery mildew and downy mildew, is a mixture of fermented garlic, onion, ginger and molasses. Locally grown kangkong is being used for the Fermented Plant Juice, which is great to fortify microbial activities in plants.
Homemade organic fertilizers are not only a great way how to feed plants with needed nutrients, but also an effective way how to use farm waste.
