Despite of El Nino phenomenon affecting Philippines by season long droughts, SRI rice harvest is currently ongoing in Marabut and Basey in Samar Island, Philippines. Within the project of Caritas Czech Republic implemented by Diocese Social Action Center of Calbayog (DSAC) farmers have gained knowledge how to plant resilient and organic rice with low water supply. Thanks to the method “System of Rice Intensification” project beneficiaries are among the few farmers able to harvest rice in rainfed areas in Samar. SRI is one of the activities to promote organic farming and local production of organic fertilizers in Samar.
