Observation of pests and insects (beneficial and harmful as well) in the Philippines

Farmers from the village of Amandayehn (Basey, province of Samar) learned to distinguish different types of insect - beneficial and harmful as well. In this part of the Philippines, Caritas Czech Republic together with the partner organization Rice Watch supports local farmers through the System of Rice Intensification. Farmers weeding their fields also recorded the numbers of insects among the rice plants as well as data on the number of tillers, heights or color of the leaves. Caritas workers led the discussion, accompanied by general recommendations and lecture about the developments of stages of rice (vegetative, reproductive and maternity stage). The rice on the picture is already on the reproductive stage.
