Lukáš Curylo, a head of Diocesan Charity Ostrava-Opava appointed as a new director of Caritas CR on February 1st, 2013. The mandate of formal director, Oldřich Haičman ended on January 31st 2013.
The new director has been chosen by the Czech Bishops’ Conference, which is the foundation body of the Caritas CR. The director is the statutory body of Caritas CR.
The Czech Bishops’ Conference also approved the new statuses of Caritas CR and confirmed auxiliary bishop Mons. Pavel Posada from České Budějovice, as a president of Caritas CR, for the following four-year term. The president is responsible for the spiritual services in Caritas CR and for the tasks in the pastoral area.
What does the new head of Caritas CR see as his priority? “In these economically challenging times my most important task will be to ensure, together with other colleagues, enough funds for the Caritas’ activities, not only in our country, but also abroad. To enable Caritas CR to carry out foreign humanitarian and development assistance,” said Lukáš Curylo.
“Also I would like to create a better environment for the mutual dialogue about the Caritas’ mission in accordance with the papal documents. I would like to emphasize the inalienable dignity of every human being and his right to live in dignity from his conception to his death at all society levels.”
Mgr. et Mgr. Lukáš Curylo (born on February 3rd, 1974) graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava and Cyril and Methodius Theological Faculty of Palacký University. He taught at the high school in 1996-2001, he worked at the Regional office of Moravskoslezský region and was head of the City of Ostrava. He has governed the Diocesan Caritas Ostrava-Opava since 2007.
