The representative members of the organizations of the CEDRON association (Central European Development and Relief Organizations Network), which started up one year ago met on Friday, 22nd of March in Prague. The meeting was organized by Caritas CR, and representatives of Slovakia, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Slovenia were among the participants.
During its year of existence, the members of the platform started (and in part realized) five common projects. The Caritas CR participated in three of them. In cooperation with the Slovak organization „Člověk v ohrožení“ (Human in danger), one of the projects from last year focused on increasing food self-sufficiency of small farmers in Afghanistan. This year, both organizations will continue this cooperation – but this time it will be about increasing the drought and flood risk resistance of provincial communities. Both projects were supported by the Czech Republic´s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since February 2013, Caritas CR also participated in the project „Strengthening humanitarian response system cooperation in Central Europe“. Apart from the already-mentioned Slovak organization, a Hungarian organization, Hungarian Baptist Aid, also joined this project. The project is financed by the Višegrád fund.
Present representatives of member organizations discussed the possibilities of cooperating in concrete countries and sectors in immediate future. For example, Caritas CR and the Human in danger started a new project in Afghanistan in which they prepare other common activities focused on increasing buildings’ energy efficiency.
CEDRON still works as an informal association, which is undemanding on the organizational and financial level. Nevertheless, during the meeting, its platform formalization and its registration as a legal entity were discussed. This would enable, in the future, to present the projects in its own name, which would be appropriate in situations where the donors prefer a cooperation with a consortium composed of several organizations.
Other meetings will take place at the end of May or in June 2013. In comparison with the meeting in Prague, this will last several days, because it will include a training session for the participants on a certain theme.
