At 54, Jonathan is a successful farmer in Zambia, Caritas Czech Republic helped him to a better life

Jonathan fled to Zambia from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was left completely on his own. Caritas Czech Republic helped him start a business and manage it effectively. Thanks to that, he became self-reliant. Today, he successfully raises chickens and ducks and leads a contented life.

Jonathan fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2011 and settled in Zambia. He arrived with his wife and son, but they have separated – Jonathan lives alone.

Like many other farmers in Zambia, Jonathan struggled with a lack of start-up capital, Caritas Czech Republic therefore provided him with a financial contribution. He has also undergone training, where he gained valuable knowledge about farming and learned about various ways to manage his business.

Jonathan managed to get back on his feet. Especially important for his livelihood is raising chickens and ducks.

"I want to thank Caritas Czech Republic for all the new knowledge and support they gave me," says Jonathan gratefully.

Many people fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo for Zambia

Today, many people in Zambia share a story similar to Jonathan’s – they came from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, escaping war and violence in search of safety. Caritas Czech Republic helps refugees in Zambia, most of whom have very limited means of making a living. We focus, among other things, on access to education and business support. Our goal is to assist refugees on their path to self-reliance.

We also helped young Elody, whose story brings hope. Thanks to our support, she built a successful business that supports her and her son. Despite a challenging life journey, she now has a smile on her face.

Caritas Czech Republic supports not only refugees in Zambia but also local farmers and entrepreneurs.

Thank you for helping with us.
