At 47 years old, Beauty from Zambia has become a skilled seamstress and independent woman. But not long ago, she was a housewife with no job, entirely dependent on her husband’s income. After their divorce, she was left to care for five children alone, with no support from her former husband. Thanks to the training and support from Caritas Czech Republic, Beauty was able to change her life and start her own business.
Beauty provides for her five children through tailoring
“Before the training, I was just a housewife,” says Beauty. “When my marriage ended, I had no income, and my ex-husband refused to support the children. I had to find a way to care for them.”
With no formal job experience and only limited attempts at small-scale business, Beauty faced overwhelming odds. But then, she joined a tailoring training supported by Caritas Czech Republic. She quickly learned how to sew, and after completing the training, became part of a local cooperative. This gave her access to tools, work opportunities, and a supportive network.
Today, Beauty works as a seamstress and earns enough to support her family. Her new job has not only brought stability but also pride. “Now I can work and provide for my children,” she says.
Beauty’s success has also opened doors for her children. One of her sons received a scholarship to study Electrical Power Engineering in Algeria. Another is learning to drive with the help of a government-supported development fund.
Caritas Czech Republic helped Beauty gain skills and independence
Through our livelihood initiative in Zambia, Caritas Czech Republic provided training to Beauty and many other women in practical skills such as tailoring to help them build better lives. Our goal is to support vulnerable people with training and startup opportunities so they can earn a living and support their families.
“I am thankful to Caritas Czech Republic for the support,” says Beauty. “I had nothing before. Now I have a skill and a job.”
