For nearly 20 years, Caritas Czech Republic has been helping people worldwide. Archbishop Jan Graubner personally supported the achievements

In the first week of October, representatives of Caritas Czech Republic' international branches gathered in Prague. Together with colleagues from the headquarters they discussed the successes of Caritas' aid in the world and shared their experiences. Archbishop Jan Graubner also came to appreciate the professionalism and efficiency of our work.

The Archbishop of Prague visited the Department of Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation

In almost 20 years of its existence, Caritas Czech Republic's Foreign Department has become one of the most important players in the field of humanitarian aid and development cooperation. As the second largest Czech organization dedicated to this type of aid, it has helped change the lives of countless people around the world for the better. Archbishop Jan Graubner also visited the international meeting of the international department. At the beginning, he introduced our colleagues from abroad to the history of Caritas Czech Republic and stressed the importance of transferring know-how and involving local actors. "Thank you for your help to people in need. Originally, Caritas focused on helping solely only in the Czech Republic and I am glad that our help reaches people elsewhere in the world now," the Archbishop appreciated our activities abroad. How does Caritas Czech Republic help in disadvantaged regions of the world?

Sharing knowledge was a big part of the conference

Promoting self-sufficiency

Getting back on their feet is not easy for people living in developing regions. In Zambia, Iraq and Georgia, we help people set up businesses that enable them to provide for their families and still offer work in their communities. We provide refugees in Zambia with scholarships to universities. We are also building the resilience of farmers to climate change in Iraq and Zambia so that they have sufficient crops to provide for themselves and their families.

Developing health and social care

In developing countries, health and social services are often inadequate, whether due to poverty or a lack of professionals. Caritas Czech Republic has long been helping to improve healthcare in Georgia, where we are expanding access to care for children with autism spectrum disorder and encouraging locals to undergo cancer screening. In Moldova, we are opening home care centres to help local elderly people access health and social services.

Humanitarian aid

Humanitarian aid is indispensable in war and natural disasters. Caritas Czech Republic is helping war-stricken people in western Ukraine who have found a safe haven here. We provide decent housing for them and improve access to medical and psychological care. We also help refugees from Ukraine in Moldova. We are helping people affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria with the basic necessities of life.
