Caritas Czech Republic is ready to help Ukraine

Eastern Ukraine has been facing a humanitarian crisis continuously since 2014. Caritas has been helping people in need in the country for a long time. Should the escalation of the armed conflict continue, Caritas Czech Republic is ready to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to people affected by the war, whether they stay in the areas of fighting, or flee.

As a result of the protracted armed conflict, Eastern Ukraine is facing a long-term humanitarian crisis. If there is any further escalation of the armed conflict and an attack by Russia, the dramatic situation in the country will only intensify. Tens of thousands more people will be forced to flee the areas of fighting, and will need help to secure their basic needs.

In cooperation with our long-term partner Caritas Ukraine, we are ready to provide immediate assistance to the people affected by the war, whether they remain in the war zone, or are forced to flee.

"The situation in Ukraine is already alarming, with the East of the country facing a humanitarian crisis uninterrupted since 2014. The escalation of the conflict will further - and probably unfortunately dramatically - increase the number of those who will need immediate assistance in providing basic needs. We are ready to do our part to help those affected by the war, all the more so as this is a country so close to us," says Evžen Diviš, Regional Manager for Post-Soviet countries and Middle East.

Caritas has been helping in Ukraine for a long time. For example, we have ensured an increase in the availability and scope of health care in Eastern Ukraine, or trained psychologists in post-traumatic stress management. We also support the country's internally displaced people, and helping with the development and provision of social care services and material assistance.
