Russian attacks on Ukraine continue to damage the energy grid and civilian infrastructure. Many people, especially in Kyiv and the surrounding areas, are left in the middle of winter without electricity, warmth, or water. Temperatures are dropping well below zero, and the repairs to the energy grid are progressing very slowly. According to recent prognoses, extremely cold weather will last for the next few weeks. In such a situation, every form of support is crucial. The Czechs have repeatedly shown that they can act fast, with understanding and compassion. Thanks to solidarity, it is possible to help in places where people are fighting for the most basic conditions for life.
To quickly support residents who live in the most affected areas, we are releasing extraordinary financial resources to purchase essential equipment for community support centres (so-called points of resilience). These centres provide residents with a place to warm up, rest, or charge their electronic devices.
Our team is in constant touch with local authorities and is monitoring the specific needs of the community. Thanks to this, our help can reach places where it is most needed.
We should not be indifferent to people in difficult situations. Support Ukraine together with us and donate to the fundraising campaign Caritas for Ukraine, so our work can continue.
Caritas Czech Republic has been operating in Ukraine for more than ten years. At the moment, we focus primarily on healthcare (including psychological support), education, and assistance to internally displaced persons, for whom we provide dignified housing and help them regain stability and independence.
We modernised and equipped six rehabilitation centres in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Thanks to Czech support, expertise, modern technologies, and the training of medical staff, access to and the quality of care for residents across the region have significantly approved. In four Ukrainian regions, we have established a total of five mental health centres for children and adults, which are available for free of cost for those in need of psychological care. We also built safe spaces for education where we offer additional classes and courses to children. Moreover, we help people during the winter months. We supply them with briquettes, solid fuel, and packages with basic necessities.
