At 28 years old, Racheal from Zambia decided to start her own business. In Zambia, this is not an easy decision, as people often struggle with a lack of start-up capital. Farmer Racheal was supported by Caritas Czech Republic, empowering her hard work and determination. Today, Racheal successfully runs businesses in several fields.
Racheal is building her livelihood through farming in Zambia
“I run my business on private land, I own livestock and several fishponds. I also grow beans, sweet potatoes, and maize. In the future, I’d like to expand my farm to include goats,” says 28-year-old farmer Racheal.
Caritas Czech Republic helped Racheal establish her own farm. Thanks to our support, she attended training that taught her how to improve her business and thereby also her livelihood. Similarly, we have supported other women farmers in Zambia.
Today, Racheal even produces her own fish feed. Buying it was too expensive for her, so she found a clever solution to the problem. She is now working on improving her business further by installing an irrigation system.
The young farmer also invests in other promising opportunities in the area, and thanks to her activities, she can earn a living. Her husband is also involved in the family farming business. Today, Racheal is one of many women in Zambia who are able to live a fulfilling life thanks to successful farming.
Caritas Czech Republic helped with capital, crops, and training
In addition to training, Caritas Czech Republic also supported Racheal with a financial contribution, which has made work on her farm much more efficient. We also provided her with some crops, mainly beans and sweet potatoes.
The determined farmer managed to overcome all the obstacles on the way to her dream. “I am grateful to Caritas Czech Republic for the support, especially for helping me gain the knowledge to improve my business,” says Racheal with gratitude.

Caritas Czech Republic helps farmers in Zambia gain valuable knowledge to improve their farming. We focus, among other things, on increasing agricultural yields and providing specialised training. For example, Caroline was with our support able to start her own poultry farm.
