Through training, I am building a future for myself and my community, says Omar, a young graduate from Iraq

In the heart of Mosul, a city rebuilding itself after years of conflict, 24-year-old Omar is preparing for a brighter future. A recent graduate of the College of Education’s Chemistry Department, Omar is determined to turn his passion for learning into a meaningful career. Thanks to the support of Caritas Czech Republic, he joined a job search club, where he learned the skills needed to find employment and inspire others along the way.

From student to future trainer

Omar’s journey began with a love for education and a dream to help others. "I graduated in 2023 from the College of Education, and I have always been interested in how knowledge can be passed on," he says. While his studies focused on chemistry, Omar’s aspirations extend beyond the lab. "One of my plans is to become a trainer. I would love to teach others and deliver knowledge in a way that is inspiring and useful," he adds.

Omar participated in intensive training sessions every day for four hours over 12 days.

As part of the job search club, Omar participated in intensive training sessions every day for four hours over 12 days. The experience has not only given him practical tools but has also strengthened his confidence. "I learned how to introduce myself properly, write a CV, prepare for interviews, and manage my fears and concerns before meeting an employer," he explains.

Learning and growing together

What Omar appreciates most about the training is the sense of community it creates. "I enjoyed the style of the training and the way it gathered people who are all searching for jobs. We share the same goals, and that is very motivating," he says. He also praises the organisation and timing of the sessions, as well as the valuable information provided.

What Omar appreciates most about the training is the sense of community it creates.

Through this experience, Omar feels better equipped to face the competitive job market in Mosul, where unemployment remains a significant challenge. "After this training, I am choosing my skills, style, and approach carefully. I am ready to put everything I learned into my life," he says proudly.

Omar’s dreams are rooted in his close-knit family. "I am married now and live with my parents. We are eight people in total," he shares.
