Hundreds of volunteers from 7 parishes of Olomouc Deans Office and others engaged in Advent rWeath production for charitable purposes."We try to raise money every year to help the missionary orphanage Verbist Care Center in Mongolian Ulanbatar. "It´s already the fifth event of this kind", explained Milada Malíšková, Caritas Olomouc coordinator..
Part of the mission of Verbist Care Center is to ensure basic human rights for orphans, abandoned or abused children. The center was founded in 1995 by the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary and it provides necessary facilities for children, likeshelter, food and education. "Money will be used to repair the center's interior where the walls were damaged by leaking water. Repairs are in progress now in August while the building is unoccupied and the children are out of Ulanbatar", said Evžen Diviš, Caritas Central Asia program manager, who gave the proceeds from Olomouc benefit event to the orphanage in July.
In the capital of Mongolia, where winter can last up to eight months and temperatures can dip to minus 40 degrees, about 2,000 children live in the streets. and there are wice as many in all of Mongolia. Currently, there are 48 orphans in the Verbist Care Center. Collaboration with Caritas Olomouc was established in 2010. "Next year, the orphanage could use the potential financial support to cover the increasing cost of some operations which is a big problem in that area," Evžen Diviš said.
