In December 2016, the parishes of the Olomouc deanery joined the traditional Advent wreath making. The charity campaign collected the total sum of CZK 57.242, part of which will be donated to the Verbist Care Center Orphanage of Ulaanbaatar and the other part for direct assistance to the needy of their parishes.
During the Advent campaign the parishes' volunteers joined forces in order to support the needy of the Olomouc parishes and the children of Ulaanbaatar Orphanage, who have been rescued from the terrible conditions in streets of the Mongolian capital. The parishes donated the Advent wreath campaign collection funds of CZK 38.541 and CZK 18.701 to the Verbist Care Center Orphanage of Ulaanbaatar and for direct assistance to the needy of their parishes, respectively.
“This year, the orphanage shall use the financial support to cover a part of the operating costs which are on the increase, and it is very difficult to cover them in the region“ said Evžen Diviš, Caritas program manager for Central Asia who will hand over the Olomouc charity campaign collection to the orphanage. The mission of the Verbist Care Centre Orphanage is to ensure that the fundamental human rights of orphans, abandoned and abused children are respected. The Centre was established in 1995 by the Congregation of the Virgin Mary and provides children with basic needs such as shelter, food and education.
In 2016, there was a substantial overhaul in organizing the Advent wreath charity campaign. The organization of the whole campaign, including the production itself, was carried out by volunteers of individual parish communities. Parishes of St. Wenceslas, Slavonín, Hodolany, VKH operating at the academic parish, Capuchins' monastery within the Parish of St. Michael and Parishes of Sv. Kopeček, Hněvotín, Velká Bystřice a Dolany of the Olomouc deanery joined the campaign.
