Czech embassy in Georgia supports Caritas CR project

Early June 2014 a meeting took place bringing together representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Georgia, the project team of Caritas CR, representatives of partner organisations and a few participants of the internship programme for people with disabilities.

The programme was a part of a project of Caritas CR and local partners aimed at ensuring easier access for people with disabilities to new jobs. This aspect of the project finished at the end of 2014. Another part of the project was screening a documentary comparing the possibilities of job opportunities for people with disabilities both in the Czech Republic and Georgia. The documentary was designed to help raise awareness about the so far rather neglected issue. Without providing better awareness for both the public and employers, it is impossible to bring about any substantial changes for the benefit of the disabled.

The participants discussed the results of the project, the experience gained, and how to use these best in the last phase of the project. The Czech Embassy attaché for development cooperation, Mr Albert Sidó, talked directly to some of those who will benefit from the project. He listened to their evaluation, expectations and recommendations for future work.

Tamar Tatishvili, the project manager of Caritas CR in Georgia, arranged cooperation with the attendees on the premiere of the documentary about employing people with disabilities. The screening took place in September under the patronage of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Georgia. Apart from the collaborating organisations and the recipients of the assistance, representatives of the responsible ministries, the municipality of Tbilisi, the representative offices, organisations focusing on human rights support and work with excluded groups of people and media were invited.

The embassy’s support will make it significantly easier for Caritas CR to use the film premiere to present the topic of employment of people with disabilities in the Georgian society to as many people as possible.
