Holiday activities for children from Bendery

A new course of wall rug making has open for boys in the day-care centre in a Transnistrian city of Bendery. Caritas CR supports the centre on a long-term basis. From the sales of the handmade products, the children raised enough money to attend several exhibitions and pay for a guided tour in the capital city.

A Roman Catholic parish in Bendery administers the day-centre. Every day it offers creative workshops to local children and youth, during which they can make toys and puppets or take embroidery, painting or drama classes.

Thanks to special funding provided by the Polish Confederation of the European Community (COMECE), the children can enjoy numerous entertaining activities during the summer. For instance, they visited the “Madagascar” theme park, the Tighina stronghold. They spent six afternoons at a swimming pool, went to the cinema twice, took a boat trip once, and they have spent a lot of time at a sports club. In this way, they could relax from learning new creative and handicraft techniques.

Interestingly, it has been predominantly girls who attended the day-centre this year. Classes on topics such as religious ethics were exceptionally popular. Since January, not a single boy has asked for even a personal consultation. On the other hand, an equal number of boys and girls attend classes on tie-dyeing and painting. Boys  are just more enthusiastic when it comes to handicraft and making of stuffed toys. Caritas CR plans to keep supporting the operation of the Bendery day-centre using, among other sources, the funds collected in the Three Kings collection.
