Serioshka Andronic, a 19-year-old from Moldavia, suffers from a pathological contraction of muscles due to cerebral palsy, which he had in childhood. Caritas Czech Republic focused on his treatment for the first time at the end of 2012, when a fundraising campaign was held. Thanks to the campaign, Andronic underwent two operations and is about to get ready for another one.
Czech donors have again contributed to the collection, in the amount of CZK 28,057 which will cover necessary medical expenses. Law student Daniel Buza managed to collect the most money, as he wished to get cash instead of birthday presents, thus collecting money from another 49 people.
The young man’s father is planning to use the donation for surgery to relax contracted muscles (750 Euros, about 20 270 CZK) and a preoperative medical examination (from 100 to 150 Euros, about 2 700 to4 055 CZK). The rest of money will cover other expenses connected to the operation (e.g. transportation to the hospital and costs for staying there). This surgical intervention will help improve Serioshka’s locomotion, relieve pain, and thereby also contribute to the mental well-being. Serioshka has undergone the same operations already in the past and as a result his condition has improved. However, according to doctors, the procedure hasto be performed at least once every two to three years.

Few years ago, as well with the support of good people of Caritas, he was put on surgeries, done by professional Russian doctors. The interventions were a success and made him ease the pain and strain in his muscles, and now he is able to ride the bicycle – for me this is the biggest miracle in 18 years since I’m trying to help him living a normal life as child.“ writes his father Ion Andronic in his letter of appreciation (the entire text in English can be seen here).
Despite the generous gift, Caritas Czech Republic hopes to collect more resources to ensure that Serioshka receives the appropriate postoperative rehabilitation to maintain the results of the surgery.
