Young Moldovans enjoy exhibition on human rights and democracy

In relation to Europe Day (May 9), an exhibition called “Gagauz Youth for Europe!” took place in the village of Congaz on Saturday, May 14. Groups of students and teachers form ten schools involved in Caritas CR’s awareness-raising activities in the area of human rights and European values prepared the exhibition as a part of the EU Democratic Values Week in April 2016.

Accompanying program.During the exhibition, Liudmila Mitioglo, director of the non-profit organization ProEuropa, gave a speech about the possibilities young Moldovans have to participate in the European Union programmes. The speech was followed by a knowledge-based competition focused on awareness of human rights, democratic values and the EU. Afterwards, the winners of the student competition were announced. During the Week of Democratic Values, young people could submit their collages, pictures, essays and other work to the competition.

The atmosphere was friendly and all the invited students took part. Valentina Stamat, a young girl, expressed her thanks saying “I am glad to have been able to take part – for the first time in an event of asimilar kind. I believe that the topics are very important for us, and especially for our children’s future. Knowing the human rights and Group photo.being able to defend them is a necessity, I believe.”

The project aimed at supporting democratization, civil society development and democratic rights in Gagauzia was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR under its Transition Cooperation programme.
