Caritas still helps people affected by the earthquake in Morocco

On September 8th, 2023, Morocco experienced a catastrophic earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale that left the population severely in need of help. At least 3,000 people lost their lives, and thousands more were injured. Up to 300,000 people were affected by the tremors, and many villages were almost completely destroyed. Caritas is still supporting the people in Morocco. How does the help look like?

The world is currently experiencing a record number of conflicts and crises since the end of World War II. From the war in Gaza, which is hitting civilians particularly hard, to the fighting in Sudan, which has caused a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, to the problems caused by drought and water scarcity in many countries. Svetlana and Victoria, two sisters from Odesa, Ukraine, had a comfortable and peaceful life until the outbreak of the war. When the bombings intensified, the sisters, aged 39 and 36, along with their elderly  father and children, embarked on a search for a safe refuge, which they eventually found in the town of Comrat in Moldova.

Residents of the southern regions of Ukraine went through harrowing times during armed conflicts and Russian occupation. While a significant part of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions has been liberated, the front line remains close. Despite ongoing dangers, people are trying to rebuild their homes after destruction and looting. We assisted them in preparing their homes for the cold and addressing other winter needs.
