Caritas Japan thanks for support

Caritas Japan wants to thank people all over the world for their great support, providing humanitarian aid after the earthquake and the tsunami wave two years ago. „We will never forget our friends for their selfless help in a time when the country was struck by an enormous disaster.“

Almost two years passed since 11th March 2011. Unfortunately, many of those whose lives were affected by the disaster are still searching for peace and hope. They are afraid that, as time passes, their suffering is being forgotten in Japan, and in the world.

But Caritas Japan continues to help those afflicted by the disaster, listens to their voices and stories and monitors how they strive to survive and to recover from the situation.

Caritas Japan further seeks and offers its support to those whose needs cannot be satisfied by the government. It involves mainly the work of various volunteer centres in the afflicted areas, which were set up by the Catholic Church, and other organizations, in Japan. The activities were centred in the diocese of Sendai.

The reconstruction in the Prefectures of Iwate and Mijagi will take a long time. Even more time will be needed for the renewal of the area surrounding the damaged nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Caritas Japan in cooperation with the diocese of Sendai is prepared to continue in the effort for renewal and aid to people.

„We would like to thank you for your past support and hope that we can rely on your generosity in the future,“ says Catholic Bishop Tarcisio Isao Kikuchi, the President of Caritas Japan.

On behalf of Caritas Czech Republic we thank all Czech donators, who helped with the sum to date of almost 5 million CZK.

Two years after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Caritas Czech Republic issued the report The Great East Japan Earthquake & Tsunami containing detailed information on the provided support and its current state.
