Ethiopia also faces the El-Niňo phenomenon

As a result of the phenomenon El Niño, caused by changes in the flow of ocean currents of the Pacific Ocean, in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa occurs a climate change in the form of a small amount of precipitation. With critical insufficiency of water, it is therefore visible even in the vast region of Ethiopia where it did not rain for several months already and all the crops died. Agricultural production is further complicated by severe soil erosion.

Learning how to fundraise better in Armenia

From January 18 to 21, 2016, a course called “Better Fundraising for Armenia” took place in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The course familiarised 25 people with methods to fundraise more effectively, financing options for non-governmental organisations, budget creation, project proposal creation and how to obtain European grants. A similar course also took place in Tbilisi in Georgia.

Public collection for Ukraine

In June 2015 the Caritas CR discussed with the Association of Private Agriculture CR the possibility of organizing a public collection for Ukraine. In the beginning of July, the collection was publicly announced in the magazine Selská Revue and it was held from 31 August to 25 September 2015. There were nine collection points in nine regions all over the Czech Republic, namely in the regions of Plzen, Litoměřice, Český Krumlov, Prague, Benešov, Žďár nad Sázavou, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Kroměříž a Tábor. The collections were transferred to Ukraine in the course of the first week in November.

System of Rice Intensification helps farmers in Samar to cope with El Niño

El Niño is a phenomenon first observed by fishermen from South America manifested by heating the surface water of the Pacific Ocean. El Niño occurs when the warming of at least 0,5 °C lasts longer than three months. However, the average duration ranges from nine to twelve months. The phenomenon is repeated in two to seven-year intervals, and not only the Philippines suffers from a lack of harvest because of it.
