The earthquake that struck the Atlas Mountains near Marrakesh on 8 September 2023 was among the most devastating disasters in Morocco’s recent history. Thousands of people lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands lost their homes, particularly in remote mountainous areas.
Caritas Czech Republic, in cooperation with local partners, provided immediate assistance in the form of emergency shelter, food, and basic necessities, and in the following months continued to support people coping with the consequences of the disaster.
