Waste management

We all produce waste. However, not every country has an effective system to manage waste in a way that does not negatively impact the local environment. Illegal landfills threaten both the environment and people's health. We, therefore, support innovative waste management solutions that will have a minimal negative impact on our planet and local communities.

How do we use innovation to tackle waste effectively?

Fighting waste in rural Moldova

Rural regions of Moldova still struggle with illegal landfills and the lack of an effective waste management system.

Caritas Czech Republic is helping local authorities introduce sustainable waste management. We support local people to be able to reduce waste production and recycle properly. We also help to expand composting to combat organic waste and greenhouse gas production.

Clean rural Georgia

Rural development is just as important as urban development. We help develop waste management infrastructure in Georgia's mountainous areas and train locals on waste segregation. We have purchased garbage trucks and are supporting the development of waste recycling infrastructure.

We are also introducing mountain farmers to the benefits of composting to minimise the environmental impact of organic waste.

Recycling in Mongolia

Waste is flooding Mongolia due to a lack of effective waste management. These plastics are often not recycled there and accumulate in landfills, polluting the environment.

In Mongolia, we are raising awareness of the importance of recycling. We support organisations working on recycling issues, organise training for authorities, businesses and schools and spread awareness about the importance of waste sorting.
