According to the UN, it has been the worst drought in the last 60 years, and could result in up to ten million starving people becoming dependent on humanitarian aid. I no longer have to walk 3 hours to fetch water, says Almaz from Ethiopia

Access to clean water is a universal need, yet for countless families in Ethiopia, it remains a difficult and sometimes dangerous daily challenge. In Abala Abaya, a rural district situated 419 kilometers south of Addis Ababa, water scarcity has shaped the lives of entire communities. Among those affected is Almaz, a mother of seven, whose story speaks to the profound impact that access to clean water, or lack thereof, can have on a family’s health, time, and overall quality of life. Caritas Czech Republic will improve climate resilience of 4500 people in Ethiopia and provide them with access to clean water

Ethiopia, like many other countries, is feeling the severe impacts of climate change, which are compromising water infrastructure and leaving many without access to clean water. In Ethiopia's Abela Abaya district, locals have to travel for six hours to fetch water for their homes. Caritas Czech Republic will help people in the south of Ethiopia gain better access to clean drinking water while improving their climate resilience. Moreover, we will empower women to include them in agriculture and other economic activities.

The agriculture, food security and nutritional status of 60 million people around the globe has been affected by El Niño-related droughts, floods and extreme hot and cold weather.
