In Palestine, young people learn how to apply for a job

Final training of Palestinian students took place at the universities in Bethlehem and Birzeit in December. During a six week period, young people obtained the necessary skills for stepping out of the academic world in order to successfully enter the labour market.

Most of participants were women.Students and graduates learned how to present themselves appropriately at job interviews, as well as other tips needed for building their career. They also learned how to lead a team, support teamwork and find motivation for themselves and others. They improved their communication skills both with peers, colleagues and supervisors. Writing a curriculum vitae under supervision was a key part of the training.

Instructors of both courses chose modern teaching methods that combined practical skills, creativity, teamwork and even games. One game was videotaped:  video.

The students created a Facebook group on their own and actively discussed the topics and shared interesting articles.

Young people expressed unprecedented interest in the courses. Given the fact that the universities do not offer such courses, the courses of Caritas Czech Republic enabled them to obtain practical skills that they could otherwise not get. There were 25 people attending from each university. Michael Tanas, an external consultant leading the course, said there were 45 additional names on the waiting list.

“I was mostly interested in learning presentation skills. I can already use them at school and later on when searching for a job. I also liked the presentation about how to read body language. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate,” said student Dawha.
