A few months ago, Muhammed Hammady, country director at Caritas Czech Republic in Iraq, Turkey, and Syria, moved to Ukraine as a country representative, to oversee our projects there. We talked with him about our work in Ukraine and Iraq, and about his personal motivation to come to the other part of the world to the country which is going through war horrors because of Russian invasion.

Young Syrians are motivated to face the difficult situation, says lecturer Václav Šneberger

The civil war in Syria has been going on for more than 11 years. As a result, young Syrians have spent a large part of their lives at war. Yet they have not lost hope for a better future. Local non-governmental organizations help them to become active members of society. Caritas Czech Republic supports the work of 30 local organizations that focus on youth thanks to the support of the European Commission. Our collaborator Václav Šneberger, who has been working as a lecturer and methodologist in the field of education and development, recently travelled to the Turkish-Syrian border.

The kids are homesick. And so am I, says the teacher of the Ukrainian adaptation club run by Caritas

More than 300,000 Ukrainian refugees have already found asylum in the Czech Republic. 40 per cent of them are children. But many of them do not go to educational institutions because there is not enough place for them. Caritas Czech Republic has therefore set up the Young Caritas club for Ukrainian children, which currently consists of 14 children.
