Thanks to the Caritas for Gaza fundraising campaign, we improved healthcare in the northern area

Living conditions in Gaza remain challenging despite the ceasefire. The majority of residents face a daily shortage of food, water, and basic necessities. Ninety-two per cent of houses in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged. Therefore, local people need help from the outside world. Caritas Czech Republic has been focusing its aid there primarily on healthcare and psychosocial assistance. At the end of last year, we collaborated with the organisation Juzoor, which secures accessible and safe health services in Gaza. Thanks to donations from the Caritas for Gaza fundraising campaign, we were able to provide funding for a newly established clinic in the north of the area.

The clinic in North Gaza provides healthcare for ten thousand residents

Among the equipment purchased for the clinic's medical staff to use in their daily work with patients were, for example, three emergency admission trolleys. Caritas Czech Republic also assisted in obtaining essential diagnostic and monitoring devices, including vital-sign monitors, stethoscopes, an infant scale, and basic surgical instruments. This equipment enables doctors not only to carry out standard examinations but also to monitor respiratory difficulties, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and diabetes.

The establishment of the new clinic has significantly improved access to healthcare for more than ten thousand residents who previously had no access to any medical facility. As a result, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses now have regular access to nutritional screening and to prenatal and postnatal care. At the same time, the clinic can respond to acute cases, which greatly reduces delays in treatment and the need to refer patients to distant or overwhelmed facilities.

Caritas Czech Republic in Gaza

Caritas Czech Republic has been operating in Gaza for a long time. In the past, we collaborated with Caritas Jerusalem, which still runs clinics for basic healthcare on site. We continue to provide important individual support to people navigating difficult life circumstances in a war-affected community. This way, we were able to help Aida, who lost her husband and her home due to the conflict. Another patient of the clinic, Nesreen, turned the assistance she received from us into helping other families in the tent camp by baking bread for them

Our activities in Gaza are supported by the Caritas for Gaza fundraising campaign. Thanks to your donations, we can also help the organisation Sawa, which offers its services to people in Gaza through a crisis hotline.

Thank you for your support
