With help from Caritas CR and Czech donors, a little Moldavan boy named Serioshka has a better life. Serioshka has cerebral palsy, and with it, pathological contraction of the muscles. Thanks to the financial contributions of Czech donors, he had the first of two surgeries in February 2013 followed by a second operation in October of that year. These were followed by rehabilitation.
Serioshka endured two surgeries in the Russian town Tula. He recovered, and subsequently took part in rehabilitation as recommended by the doctors in the rehabilitation centre in the town of Balti in the north of Moldova. The rehabilitation is a necessary part of the successful surgery. Serioshka’s father, Ion, pointed out that the surgery and rehabilitation were beyond what the family could pay.
Serioshka and his father were in Balti for more than a month. The boy attended daily massages, speech therapy and physiotherapy. In total, he took part in 68 speech therapies (twice daily), 68 physiotherapies (also twice a day) and 34 massages (once in a day).
The total costs for the rehabilitation were 1 552 € (approximately 43 500 CZK), including 421 € (almost 12 000 CZK) for the speech therapy, 421 € for physiotherapy and 182 € (approximately 5 100 CZK) for massage therapy. Other expenses included the costs for medications and ointments.
The recommendation of the specialist from the rehabilitation centre is continuing the physiotherapy, speech therapy and repetitive stay in the rehabilitation centre 3-4 times a year.
Serioska’s emotional state improved along with his physical state after the first round of surgeries in Russia. His movements are more coordinated, he accepts the food more easily, he is able partly to feed himself, and, says his father, Ion, ”he always wants go out to ride a bike. He does not let me rest.” It is obvious that the surgery, the subsequent rehabilitation and the frequent time outside have strongly benefitted the boy’s health.
Unfortunately, the way to total recovery for Serioshka is not yet over. Apart from the regular stays in the rehabilitation centre, the doctors recommend repeated surgeries in Tula. . Doctors also recommend that Serioshka should also go through the knee surgery that should improve his mobility. This surgery can be done in Moldova for free.
At the moment, Serioshka needs another two surgeries in Tula which cost:
- the two surgeries, including braces – 20 000 CZK
- two way trip for 2 persons Kishinev-Tula – 11 000 CZK
- costs for company (accommodation and food for the father) – 10 000 CZK
At the same time, he needs regular rehabilitation, for at least 14 days in the city of Balti which would cost approximately 15 000 CZK.
We thank all of the donors who contributed until now for the surgeries and rehabilitation for Serioshka. At the same time we would like to encourage those who can help improve Serioshka’s future by sending a contribution to the collection account nb. 55660022/0800, variable symbol 125.
