Support of civic participation in Moldavian Cahul continues

Caritas CR and the Moldavian organisation “Success” organised a seminar in March 2014 for the heads of local governments from the villages of Slobozia Mare, Brinza, Colibasi.

Both organisations referred to activities in 2013 when they met together to enhance competency of citizens in communities in Cahul region when dealing with local government. In 2014, their aim was to teach them how to use these abilities in practice, mainly when communicating to local government. In contrast to the previous project, this year’s project focused on the necessity for active participation of the representatives of local government at the seminar and their active participation in other activities.

We reserved all three days of the seminar for representatives of local government. The format of lectures, presentations and group games informed participants about the response to two key questions: Why is the collaboration of citizens and government representatives important? And, what does a high-functioning collaboration look like? The participants were also familiarized with the legal framework for the collaboration of local governments with its citizens.

Before the end of the school year, the participants completed a survey. Its results revealed the initial low level of the knowledge which increased considerably after absorbing the seminar. The overall evaluation of the seminar was also very positive. That is very optimistic for its organizers, who now intend to ensure the same quality for future similar activities.

The project, aiming to support civic society in five villages in the region of Cahul, is financed by the Ministry for the Foreign Affairs CR from the Program for transforming collaboration.
