Yesterday, Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc sent the next shipment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Thermal underwear is headed to the needy ones who were affected by armed conflict in the east of the country and the bed sheets and linens are going to the war veterans. They are recovering in a psycho-neurological hospital in Ternopil.
Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc has been helping in the Ukraine for years. Yesterday, together with charity workers from Ternopil, it disposed of thousands of pieces of thermal underwear and also sheets and linens to a car. The car headed towards Ukraine. “People from the Parish charity of Ternopil cathedral took the sheets and linens to the psycho-neurological hospital in Ternopil. The wounded soldiers are recovering there. The rehabilitation center recently expanded with this new department and its staff approached Caritas asking for help with the equipment,” says P. Rostislav Strojvus from Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc.
Most of the underwear will go to the east of Ukraine and people affected by the war will receive it there.
Two years after Majdan, the situation is still fragile. According to P. Strojvus, the number of war veterans who need psychological help is increasing; also, many refugees from the east of the country remain in a safe area and do not want to go home. “Where they lived, there are still military conflicts and they would be at risk. Additionally, they could be persecuted for their opinion,” thinks an aid worker and a Greek Orthodox priest.
The needed consignment has already arrived to Ternopil hospital.
