Middle East

We help people in the Middle East cope with the consequences of conflict and humanitarian disasters. We have been operating in the region since 2012.

We provide humanitarian assistance primarily in Syria and Gaza Strip, where people are facing the consequences of protracted conflict, poverty and natural disasters. We provide access to basic necessities, health and psychosocial care, and support the restoration of livelihoods and shelter.

In the years 2012-2025, our branch in Iraq was active, focusing primarily on the reconstruction of the country after the war, providing shelter, building livelihoods and supporting farmers in adapting to climate change. We have also been active in providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Turkey affected by the catastrophic earthquake and to the people of Lebanon after the devastating explosion in Beirut.

Today, at 24 years old, he manages the textiles department in a supermarket, which he was able to do thanks to an on-the-job training programme supported by Caritas Czech Republic.

Thousands displaced in southern Syria – Security and Humanitarian Situation Remains Critical

Caritas Czech Republic has been operating in the Turkish-Syrian border region since 2013. In February 2023, a powerful earthquake struck Syria and Turkey. In cooperation with our local partners, we provided on-site assistance – ranging from essential material aid to hygiene kits and warm clothing. In December 2024, the government of Bashar al-Assad came to an end, leaving the country in a state of fragility. Caritas continues to closely monitor the humanitarian situation across Syria, including in areas where we are not currently operating directly. One such region is the southern province of Al-Suwayda, where both the security and humanitarian conditions have deteriorated significantly in recent weeks.

From this small room in her family home, Iman has built a flourishing handwork business, one rooted in tradition, creativity, and determination. With support from Caritas Czech Republic, she has turned a simple post-graduation hobby into a livelihood that now reaches customers as far away as Canada.
