Mongolia

We have been operating in Mongolia since 2006. Our primary focus is environmental work, especially waste management, and actively supporting young people. However, we have also provided humanitarian aid to pastoralists affected by the harsh winter or helped in the fields of education, social services or health.

During 2025, our projects in Mongolia will be completed and the local branch will be closed.

Sustainable development

Waste treatment, especially plastics, is one of the significant problems facing Mongolia today. In 2020, we successfully completed a project that focused on recycling and recovering construction waste. We are currently working to promote plastic waste treatment, which floods Mongolia. Its illegal disposal is widespread not only among households but also companies.

Supporting youth and civil society

Together with our partner organisations, we are committed to developing Mongolian youth and civil society. In the framework of the project "All for YOUth, YOUth for all", we not only support the development of volunteering among young people but also help them with personal development and advise them on how to plan and build a career.

Youth Wave Club: Youth has a power to change

Democracies around the world often fail to effectively engage young people or hear their voices.  Young people can feel that their vote doesn’t have an impact, that the issues they face are illegitimate, or that representatives don’t reflect their values.  The youth of today are the citizens who will live with the positive or negative consequences of political decisions longer than anyone else.

The presidential elections in Mongolia will take place this Wednesday, and every vote counts. Great emphasis is placed on the votes of young people who are usually not interested in politics and their participation in elections is low. Caritas Czech Republic created promotional videos to convince young Mongolians to vote.

Mongolia is Helping Communities Reduce Plastic Pollution by Taking Action On Waste

Waste management is a key issue in Mongolia due to the intense urbanisation, industrialisation and increasing consumption of packaged products over the last decade. Even though more than half of Mongolia’s population lives in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, currently there is no consolidated waste management system for plastic waste (collection, segregation, transport and proper standards) in the city and effective recycling practices are missing.

Caritas Czech Republic in Mongolia promotes volunteering among Mongolian youth

Mongolia is a country of young people. Young people aged 15-34 comprise Mongolia’s largest demographic and more than one-third of the population. Under the financial support of the European Union and the Canada fund, Caritas Czech Republic, Mongolian Youth Council and Center of Citizenship Education have been working on youth development and empowerment in Mongolia. Within the framework of the “All for YOUth, YOUth for all” project, Mongolian Youth Council revived http://ivolunteer.mn/ platform in order to enhance volunteerism among young people.
