Since 2011, Syria has faced a civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions from their homes. The people of Syria face a lack of basic needs and livelihoods. We are helping to mitigate the effects of the civil war in the country. We have been working in the Turkish-Syrian border region since 2013. We have provided humanitarian material aid and healthcare and helped provide people with decent housing in the Idlib region.

In February 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Syria and Turkey. This exacerbated the problematic situation of the people in the country and left them entirely dependent on humanitarian organisations to provide for their basic needs.

Humanitarian aid for earthquake victims

In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, we started to provide on-the-ground assistance in cooperation with our partner organisations. We provided basic material aid such as food, drinking water, hygiene kits, warm clothes, and blankets. We are also providing shelter, as well as building social facilities. In response to the earthquake, we have launched a fundraiser to help Turkey and Syria.

10 years of war in Syria. Caritas helps the most vulnerable people in the country

The war in Syria began 10 years ago. Since then, it has driven millions out of their homes, whether out of Syria or within the country. According to UN OCHA, 2.7 million internally displaced people live in north-eastern Syria, 1.6 million of them in refugee camps. Caritas Czech Republic has been working in Syria since 2013 and this year will help young people with livelihood.

Syria conference must invest in future for refugees

Caritas agencies call on western countries to do more to help fleeing Syrians, as more than five million people have been forced to cross borders and register as refugees in neighbouring countries. "All my memories about Raqqa are wonderful," said Rabba Lissa

"Life in Raqqa used to be good We had sheep, some land, water. When the problems with ISIS started there, we left for Damascus. We managed to get out before they cut the roads. All my memories about Raqqa are wonderful. ISIS are not good. They stole our land, they killed people. By the time we’d left, there were no jobs left. People were very afraid. We sold our properties and left. Now the house and the farm land have been completely destroyed by the bombing," said Rabba Lissa (60). Read more HERE.

Abeer Al Hasan still believe in a future of Syria

“We had to leave our home because of the fighting. My husband passed away seven months ago. He stepped on a landmine near his factory. When I got the call there had been an accident, I went straight away to the hospital. I didn’t see him as they’d already buried the body. I was in shock.
