Thirteen years of war and last year's earthquake have left Syria in a difficult situation. Together with local residents and organisations, we support Syrians in starting their own businesses to revive the local economy. One of the people we supported is Mohammad, who received a grant from us and open his own poultry farm.

Fiston fled the Democratic Republic of Congo in search of safety, arriving at Zambia's Meheba refugee settlement in 2015. Today, a new chapter has opened for him. With the support from Caritas Czech Republic, Fiston pursued a computer science degree at Cavendish University in Lusaka. His story is an inspiring testament to the transformative power of education, illustrating how it can empower refugees to overcome adversity and build a promising future.

Internally displaced people in Ukraine who have lost their homes and usual lifestyle due to the war want to adapt and stand on their own two feet in new places. Unfortunately, not everyone succeeds: someone’s profession is no longer in demand, others have lost their businesses or skills during the war, some face unemployment and do not have the funds to learn a new craft. To help displaced people secure income, Caritas Czech Republic  is launching a new initiative to provide mini-grants for education.

From refugees to entrepreneurs: How 3 young men opened the first computer centre in a refugee settlement in Zambia

In the Mayukwayukwa refugee settlement in Zambia, three young refugees who fled their home country started with a simple idea: bringing computers to their community. Just two years later, and thanks to the support from Caritas Czech Republic, they turned their idea into a thriving business by opening an ICT centre. Today, the centre offers variety of services, from printing to photography to designing. For the young guys, the centre is more than just a job.
