Sarri has established a thriving butchery business and can comfortably support his family thanks to Caritas Czech Republic’s support

Starting a business requires management skills and money for essential tools. In areas once under ISIS control, locals find it even tougher to set up businesses. Sarri, from Al-Amiriah in Iraq, a father of three, chose to open his butchery after parting ways with his business partner. Caritas Czech Republic assisted Sarri with management training and funds for needed supplies.

Caritas helps displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh in Armenia

On the afternoon of 19 September 2023, Azerbaijani armed forces launched a military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh to take control of the region. The offensive forced the local Armenian population to flee to Armenia. According to the UN, the number of Armenians who have fled Nagorno-Karabakh for Armenia has exceeded 100 000. Our partner Caritas Armenia is providing the basic necessities of life to the displaced people.

I repair refrigerators for a living, says 25-year-old refugee Nicholas

For Nicholas, finding a job in Zambia is almost an unachievable dream. Although he was born in Zambia, he is still considered a refugee. That is because his parents originally come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, from where they fled in search for safety. They found a safe haven in Zambia, where their son was born. Thanks to the support from Caritas Czech Republic and UNHCR, Nicholas now has his own workshop where he repairs refrigerators.

I now have a thriving popcorn and fritter business says Fostinah from Zambia

Mukeya Fostinah Ntenda is a member of the Twikatane Savings Group in the Nchelenge district of Zambia. She is 39 years old and married with six children. She was among the first people to join the group. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia and the Financial Sector Deepening (FSDZ) for introducing the savings group initiative, she now boasts of a thriving popcorn business.
