Millions of people on the run in the Middle East – Caritas Czech Republic responds

Since the beginning of March, the situation in the Middle East has continued to worsen significantly. Attacks and increasing insecurity have forced over 4 million people to flee their homes. Caritas Czech Republic is part of the global Caritas network, which supports people in crises and natural disasters. Therefore, we are taking action to provide immediate help. We are allocating 10,000 euros from the Three Kings Collection crisis fund to support Caritas Lebanon. Our sister organisation has operated in the country for a long time and understands local conditions well. If you wish to assist those who have lost their homes in a matter of days, you may contribute to the Caritas for the Middle East fundraising campaign.

Goat farming has improved the living conditions of a savings group in Zambia

In Zambia, Caritas Czech Republic supports local residents in becoming self-reliant and in personal development. Therefore, we assist people who unite in so-called savings groups within their communities. They farm together and learn new skills, which gradually helps them save money and improve their livelihoods. One of the groups that received our financial support is called Sala. Its members come from the village of Manungu in the Monze area of southern Zambia. They engage in goat rearing.

Majed from Syria used to buy expensive water every three days. Today, thanks to Caritas, he has his own supply

Until recently, Majed from Syria had to buy expensive water for his entire family every three days. Today, thanks to Caritas Czech Republic, he has his own source of clean water, sufficient both for household needs and for irrigating crops. In collaboration with the organisation Takaful Al-Sham, we put into operation the local pumping station and restored the water supply network. As a result, Majed no longer has to pay for water and can save money instead.
