Masoud's story: How a Caritas grant helped him rebuild his life after he lost everything in the war

Masoud Ablahad Ishaq is a 53-year-old man who lives in the town of Bashiqa in Iraq with his family. He had to leave his hometown because of the war and after the area was liberated from ISIS, Masoud returned to Bashiqa and had to spend all of his life savings to reconstruct his home. Thanks to the grant from Caritas Czech Republic, he is now able to stand on his own two feet again.

How life skills training helped Muhammed get from unemployment back into the workforce

Mr. Muhammed is 45-year-old. Along with his parents and grandparents, he used to work as a shepherd in the Heet countryside in Iraq. But because of the conflict he had to flee his home and went through difficult times when he was kidnapped by ISIS. After returning to Heet, he could not find any source of livelihood to support his family. Now he has a solid employment thanks to his participation in Caritas' Life Skills training.

Salwa is 43 year-old, has been a resident of Heet Center for almost two decades. She was born in Fallujah, married in Heet, and has lived there ever since with her family. Her family consists of her husband, son, and two daughters. She spent her entire life as a housewife, primarily in handicrafts.

Caritas Czech Republic is providing immediate and stabilization aid for vulnerable communities in Mosul District, of Ninewa governorate. We support the farmers with trainings and giving them small grants to help them stand on their own two feet again. Matte is one of the farmers in Ninewa that we supported.

We want to spread a positive message through music, says a refugee music band in Zambia

Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia helps refugees who have fled here mainly from neighboring countries due to violent conflicts. In Zambia, they often live in one of the large refugee settlements of Mayukwayukwa, Meheba and Mantapala, as well as in Lusaka. And it is in Lusaka where we have focused on supporting young refugees and opened youth friendly corners to offer the youth a place to spend time in a meaningful way. A music group called Strong Youths was formed in one of these centers.
