Lebanon is facing one of the deepest crises in its modern history. In 2026, the situation escalated dramatically due to a regional conflict; the security situation remains unstable, and more than 1 million people have been forced to flee their homes. Access to healthcare and education has been severely limited for an extended period, while the most vulnerable groups are struggling with growing poverty.
Caritas Czech Republic supports Caritas Lebanon and, through the Caritas for the Middle East fundraising campaign, provides assistance to people on the move, supports healthcare services, and helps to meet basic needs in a country facing a severe humanitarian emergency.
The roots of the current crisis extend back to previous years. The explosion at the port of Beirut in August 2020 accelerated Lebanon’s descent into a profound economic and financial crisis, the consequences of which are still felt today. At the time, Caritas Czech Republic, together with partners from the global Caritas network, delivered immediate assistance and supported the restoration of essential infrastructure.
To address urgent current needs, Caritas Czech Republic has already released 10,000 euros from the emergency fund of the Three Kings’ Collection to support Caritas Lebanon.
