Mali is located in the Sahel region. The situation in the country in 2011 and the first half of 2012 was very serious because of low rainfall that caused the food crisis in the Cercle de San. Due to low incomes from the sale of grain, people began to starve. Caritas CR therefore prepared a project to reduce the impacts of crop failure and consequent famine in the local community. It focused mainly on the supplies of food to the most vulnerable families. Caritas CR was also trying to improve vegetable production using different kinds of crops.

The Caritas closes the its office in the north of Mali

Caritas Mali says its local office in Gao in northern Mali was destroyed along with the local church after Tuareg rebels seized the city at the weekend. Despite the conflict in the north and a coup last month, Caritas Mali says its operations providing desperately needed food aid to the rest of the country continue. (article from caritas.org)
